Information You Submit
Search Queries
A name or date of birth entered into an embedded search tool is handled by the outside provider operating that tool. Review that provider's notice before sending information. If you email us or use a contact form, we receive the details you choose to include so we can respond to the inquiry.
Messages and Contact Submissions
Keep messages limited to what is needed for your question. Do not send sensitive case papers or another person's personal information through a general contact channel. We use messages to answer and manage correspondence, subject to any legal duty that applies.
Technical Visit Information
When a page loads, ordinary web and hosting services may record technical information associated with that request, such as:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Site Measurement
Cookies are small browser files that can support site functions and usage measurement. Browser controls can limit or clear them; blocking a cookie may change how a feature works. Analytics and advertising providers, if used on a visit, apply their own technologies and notices.
How Information May Be Used
- Operating pages and maintaining basic site performance
- Passing a search query to the provider selected for that tool
- Understanding aggregate visits and improving confusing pages
- Investigating errors, abuse, or security problems
- Supporting advertising or referral arrangements where present
Official Floyd County Records Stay With Public Offices
This private guide does not host a warrant database, case docket, or official Floyd County record. A visitor's web activity is separate from records held by the sheriff and Virginia courts. For a public-record request, contact the office responsible for the particular document. Virginia FOIA, including Code § 2.2-3704, concerns records held by public bodies; it is not a search request to this website.
Outside Search Providers
Some search tools are operated by another company. When you submit a query, that provider determines how it processes, retains, and shares the information under its own terms and privacy notice. We do not control those practices. Read the provider's current terms before using its service.
External Websites
Links may lead to the Floyd County Sheriff's Office, Virginia court systems, state agencies, or other organizations. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy and practices apply. Check them before providing personal details.
Advertising or analytics services may use their own identifiers and tracking tools. Their handling is governed by their disclosures and browser controls.
Possible Recipients
We do not sell personal information. Depending on the feature used, information may be processed by:
- The search service that receives a query
- Hosting or site measurement providers supporting this website
- Advertising partners, where advertising is displayed
- A public authority when disclosure is required by valid legal process
Safeguards
We use reasonable measures intended to protect information handled through this site. Internet services cannot be guaranteed completely secure, and no online transmission or storage method eliminates every risk. Avoid sending sensitive records through ordinary website contact channels.
Children and Teenagers
This resource is intended for adults dealing with official record questions. Do not submit information about a child through this site. If you believe a minor has sent us personal details, contact us so we can review the message and take an appropriate step.
Questions About Information You Sent
You may contact this site to ask whether we still have a message you sent and to request correction or deletion where appropriate. We will review the request in light of information actually held and any legal retention duty. A request under Virginia FOIA must instead go to the public body that holds the government record.
- Identify the email or contact message at issue
- Tell us what information you believe should be corrected
- Ask that a message be deleted when it is no longer needed
- Ask how an outside search provider handles a submitted query
Policy Revisions
We may revise this notice when the site or its practices change. The version posted here explains the policy then in effect, so review it again if you continue to use the site after an update.
